River Thames Alliance

The River Thames Alliance is a partnership of public and private sector organisations, set up in June 2003 to help manage the future of the non-tidal Thames. There are now 78 member organisations of the Alliance, which is chaired by David Suchet.

The Environment Agency acts as secretariat and is supported by a Management Group with representatives from the River Thames Society, Natural England, Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, West Berkshire Council , London Borough of Kingston, ACTVaR (the association of councils in the Thames Valley), Sport England, the Thames Boating Trades Association, Mid Thames Riparian Landowners, BBOWT (Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust) and river user groups. The River Thames Alliance also has the support of the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

The RTA Management Group meets throughout the year, and the AGM is in July, according to the constitution. New members are invited to contact Juliet King.

The main aim of the River Thames Alliance is to develop and implement the Thames Waterway Plan. We have already achieved success through the River Thames Alliance Marketing Partnership which has come together to improve the marketing of the Thames. There is also an Education sub-group that is planning work to identify the educational resources provided along the length of the Thames, and improve joint working.
